Parents’ Association Newsletter Spring 2018

The purpose of the Parents’ Association is to provide a structure through which the parents/ guardians of pupils of the School can work together with the school for the best possible education for their children.
This year we intend to focus not only raising funds to support school facilities and initiatives but to provide social opportunities for both children and parents to get to know others in their community.

So, who are we?
The newly appointed  Parents' Association Officers are-

Chairperson: Eimear Donnelly – Eimear has 2 girls one in junior infants and one in 4 th  class and a boy in 2 nd class.  

Secretary: Michelle Thorne-  This is Michelle’s second year as Secretary and is helping Eimear and Ruth with the transition from the previous committee.   Michelle lives locally and has a daughter in 5 th Class.

Treasurer :  Ruth Sherry – Ruth might be known to some of you as a beaver scout leader locally. She has 2 boys one in 6 th class and one in first class and a girl in 4 th class.  

When do we meet?
The PA meets monthly usually on a Wednesday at 8pm in the staff room of the girls school and lasts approximately 1 hr. You will notice the PA banner on the cage railings on the week that the meeting is taking place and a reminder email will be sent by the PA. It is always attended by the 3-person committee and any parents who want to know what is happening in the school have ideas that they’d like to see actioned or are interested in being involved.  Everyone is welcome.  The Minutes are circulated after the meeting and are also available on the websites under Parents Association.

The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 28 th February.

How can I get involved or help out?
We are always looking for volunteers to support the events and initiatives. This might be taking registration for the Annual Beach Walk or helping with the teas for the Communion parties.

Maybe you have IT skills, a venue we could use ( some have already been offered and are being considered)  provide raffle prizes, have access to discounts or amazing baking skills!!  Maybe you are just brimming with ideas but need some support to bring them to life – then the PA group welcomes you!

Dates for the Diary
First Holy Communion
This year the communion will take place on Saturday 12 th May. After each of the ceremonial masses 10 am (boys) 12pm (girls) the children and their families are invited back to the School Hall for tea and treats.  The PA will also have a professional photographer set up to take the all-important family photo.
The school tradition is that 1 st and 3rd class Parents help out at this event. (Paying it forward and back!)  It involves room setup, making and serving tea and coffee, washing and tidying up afterwards. It’s a lovely day and great to see all the boys, girls, parents and guardians looking so smart and happy!
If you are willing to give up a few hours on the day to help we would be delighted to see you – please email the PA and advise of your interest.
